AION 2 global launch: times, platform and what changes today

The AION 2 global launch happens today, 5 October 2026, at 13:00 UTC. That is 6 AM PDT, 9 AM EDT, 2 PM in London, 3 PM in Central Europe and 6:30 PM in India, according to the launch schedule published by Insider Gaming. It is a PC-only release, available on Steam and through NC's own PURPLE launcher, and developer and publisher NC lists it on Steam as free to play.

For most players the practical change is simple: the paywall comes down. Since 30 September the only way in was a Founder's Pack, which carried five days of advance access that ended on 4 October. From today anyone can download the client and create a character without buying anything. Steam's own listing shows the game with in-app purchases and a mature-content descriptor for gore.

This is the Western debut of a game that already exists elsewhere. AION 2 launched in South Korea and Taiwan on 19 November 2025, per Insider Gaming and a Steam-chart write-up by Gaming Pro Max, so today's launch is less a reveal than a test of whether NC can export a Korean live-service model to players who dislike its worst habits.

AION 2 Founder's Pack: what the $24.99, $49.99 and $99.99 tiers include

Steam lists three AION 2 Founder's Pack tiers: Standard at $24.99, Deluxe at $49.99 and Ultimate at $99.99. According to TimeSaver's breakdown, the part that matters is identical across all three: five days of advance access from 30 September to 4 October, plus a 30-day Membership. Everything above $24.99 is cosmetic.

Standard adds a Daeva's Campaign Supply Chest and a unique-grade title called Vanguard of Atreia. Deluxe layers on the Ascended Daeva armor skin and the Eternal Sun weapon skin. Ultimate adds a Daeva's Styling Chest, the Moonlit Aria armor skin, a Black Dragon pet and Blazing Sun wings. TimeSaver notes the packs are limited to one per account and that you did not need one to play after launch.

That makes the maths blunt. If you bought Standard, you paid $24.99 for a head start and a month of a feature that otherwise costs $15. The extra $25 for Deluxe or $75 for Ultimate bought skins, a pet and wings, nothing that NC says touches progression. Whether that is good value is a taste question, but nobody who skipped the packs is behind on content.

“I am not ready to give NC a blank check just yet. Previous monetization models have left a little too much scar tissue for that.”

Is AION 2 free to play? What the Membership actually gates

Yes, AION 2 is free to play, and NC does not require Membership to play the base game. Where it charges is convenience and trade. TimeSaver reports that the $15 monthly Membership unlocks remote storage, access to the player Market (the auction house), the Kina to Quna currency exchange and a higher number of reward choices from dungeons. Free players can still equip and play, but cannot freely buy or trade certain items through the Market.

That is the same split a Guided.news preview described on 6 September 2026. The piece says free players are not supposed to be locked out of the main PvP zone, the Abyss, by a daily time limit, and that the cash shop sells cosmetics, consumables such as Resurrection Stones, crafting materials and a premium currency, with seasonal passes roughly every three months.

The catch is the economy. NC states that purchases do not affect gear progression or long-term power, per TimeSaver. Critics quoted in the same guide point out that crafted gear is tradeable and premium currency can convert into in-game currency, which is how spending can leak into power by the side door. Gating the Market behind a subscription is also a very direct way of turning the player economy into a revenue line.

What the game is: flight, scale and a lot of dungeons

NC's Steam page sells AION 2 as an MMORPG built around aerial combat on Unreal Engine 5, set in a world it says is 36 times larger than the original AION. As a Daeva, flight is how you fight and explore, not a travel shortcut, and the page says every region and encounter was designed with verticality as its axis. Treat that as marketing until you have played it, but the premise is genuinely different from most MMOs.

The content list is long. Steam says there are over 200 dungeons across solo, five-player and ten-player formats, seasonal challenges, competitive rankings and open-world events, with the Abyss tying PvE and faction war together. Character creation advertises over 200 customisation options, and a Shugo Festival mini-game mode adds events for wings, skins, pets and decor. Full voice audio ships in English, Japanese and Korean.

AION 2 system requirements: 100 GB and a recommended RTX 2070

The AION 2 system requirements on Steam are heavier than the free-to-play label suggests. The minimum is Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-10500, 8 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti with 4 GB, DirectX 12 and 100 GB of storage. NC adds that an SSD is recommended and that Full HD at minimum needs the Very Low graphics preset.

The recommended spec is a Ryzen 7 3700X or Core i7-11700, 16 GB of RAM and an RTX 2070 with 8 GB, again with 100 GB of free space and an SSD. At FHD NC asks for the Low preset even on that hardware. If you are on an older laptop, budget the disk space before launch day, because the download is the real barrier.

What to watch after launch: servers, scar tissue and the reviews

Lootwow reports NC announced separate regional server operations for North America, South America, Europe and Japan, and the Insider Gaming guide warns of server strain during advance access, so day-one queues are plausible. We could not verify server counts or capacity on an NC page this run, so treat regional details as reported, not confirmed.

The early reception is decent, not glowing. Steam shows 6,526 reviews, 4,936 positive and 1,590 negative, a Mostly Positive rating of roughly 76 percent as of 5 October. Those reviews come from people who paid to get in early, which usually flatters a game. The more telling number will be what happens to that score once free players hit the Market gate and the first season pass lands.

Our take: a fair door, a pricey hallway

Free to play, no daily PvP timer and no mandatory pack is a better entry deal than the Korean launch gave players, which Guided.news said drew scepticism. If you like the flight premise, there is no reason not to try it today.

But the honest cost of AION 2 is not on the front page. If you want to trade, you pay $15 a month, and that is the figure to compare against a normal subscription MMO. Try it free, decide after the first week whether the Market matters to you, and ignore the Ultimate pack unless you want the wings.
