Deep Rock Galactic Survivor PS5 release date: what is confirmed

The Deep Rock Galactic Survivor PS5 release date is 7 October 2026, tomorrow as we publish. Developer Funday Games and publisher Ghost Ship Publishing say the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions follow on 9 October. The game has been on PC and Xbox since 17 September 2025, so this is a port of a finished game.

Ghost Ship and Funday revealed the console dates on 29 September 2026, the same day Coffee Stain's Big Break Showcase aired, alongside a new paid expansion called Knockout. The expansion has no release date yet, so the thing you can actually buy this week is the base game.

One housekeeping point on the dates, because the web is not consistent. Gematsu's headline says the game is coming to PS5, Switch 2 and Switch on 7 October, which reads as one shared day. The press release and Nintendo Life both give 9 October for Nintendo hardware. We go with the publisher's split: PS5 on the 7th, Nintendo on the 9th.

What the game is, and who it is for

Deep Rock Galactic Survivor is a single-player survivor-like auto-shooter, the genre popularised by Vampire Survivors. You play one dwarf against hordes of aliens on Planet Hoxxes. Your weapons fire on their own, you steer, mine resources mid-run and spend them on upgrades. Push Square lists four playable classes taken from the original co-op game: Gunner, Engineer, Driller and Scout.

It is a spin-off, and that matters for buying advice. This is not the four-player first-person co-op game that made the brand. Steam tags the Survivor game as single-player only, with no co-op mode. If you want to dig with friends on PlayStation, this is the wrong purchase. If you want a pick-up-and-play run you can finish in a lunch break, it is the right one.

The mining layer is what separates it from its parent genre. Per Push Square, you mine during a run and spend materials on upgrades between floors, and some materials unlock permanent improvements. Optional area objectives pay out extra. That gives the loop a second decision to make besides where to stand, which is the reason reviewers keep singling it out.

“Expanding to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 has been a long time coming, and introducing more content has been an absolute blast!”

How well it has reviewed on PC and Xbox

The console ports arrive with a proven record. The Steam page lists the game at 87 percent positive across 24,073 reviews, and Push Square puts its Metascore at 86. At launch in September 2025, Pure Xbox reported a Metacritic score of 85 from six PC critic reviews.

The loudest endorsement came from PC Gamer, which scored it 90 out of 100 and closed its review with the line "Vampire Survivors is no longer the king of the genre." That is one outlet's opinion, and it is a comparison to a game with a very large head start, but it explains why a console port of an almost year-old game is news at all. IGN gave it 8 out of 10, according to Nintendo Life.

The honest caveat is volume. Most of those reviews were written about the PC build. Recent reviews on Steam sit at 81 percent positive across 217 reviews in the last 30 days, a bit under the lifetime score, which is normal for a game a year past launch. Nobody has published a console performance review yet, so treat the ports as unmeasured until players and Digital Foundry-style outlets get hands on them.

Price, Steam sale and what we could not verify

On Steam, the base game lists at $12.99. Nintendo Life reports the same $12.99 for the Switch release, which is also the launch price Pure Xbox quoted for the original Xbox and PC release. We could not find a confirmed PlayStation Store price for the PS5 version on a page we could open, so we are not going to guess one. Check the store listing before you buy.

There is a wrinkle for anyone on PC. Steam is currently running a 40 percent discount that takes the game from $12.99 to $7.79, with the offer ending on 8 October. If you were waiting for the console version only to play on a TV, remember the PC copy is cheaper than it will probably ever be this week.

The earlier add-on gives a sense of ongoing support. The Heavy Duty Expansion launched on Steam on 30 April 2026 at $9.99, now discounted to $7.99. Steam also lists an After Hours Pack and a $4.99 Supporter Pack. Whether the console versions will carry the same add-ons at launch has not been confirmed in anything we read.

The Knockout expansion: Brawler, new biome and a boss

Knockout is the bigger content story, even though it is not out yet. Its Steam page says it adds a melee-focused Brawler class with 11 new weapons that can be used across the other classes through a tag system, a biome called Sandblasted Corridors and a mission called Brood Harvest. That mission ends with a boss fight against the Dreadnought Empress, an insectoid matriarch who spawns offspring as a biological shield.

The Steam page says the biome offers more freedom in how you tackle challenges without raising progression requirements. It shows no price and only says coming soon. Ghost Ship has not given a release date, and we have not seen any statement on whether the expansion lands on consoles at the same time as on PC.

For a buyer, the practical read is simple. The Brawler is the first class that fights up close, which changes the pace of a genre where you normally kite enemies. It is the best reason to start on PC if you want the newest content first, and the best reason to wait if you are on console and prefer to buy once the DLC date is known.

What Funday and Ghost Ship said

The press release quotes Jacob Laurits Besenbacher Kjeldsen of Funday Games: "Expanding to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 has been a long time coming, and introducing more content has been an absolute blast!" It is a standard line, but the first half is accurate. The game was in early access on PC from 14 February 2024, reached full release on Xbox Series X|S and PC on 17 September 2025, and arrived on iOS and Android on 12 November 2025.

Funday is an independent Danish studio based in Aarhus, founded in 2011, and Ghost Ship is a Danish studio that has been part of Coffee Stain Group since 2021, per the press release. The console ports are the latest stage in a staggered rollout that began in early access.

Deep Rock Galactic Survivor on Switch: the performance question

The Switch release has one open question. Nintendo Life's report noted that some commenters worried about the original Switch, given how CPU-heavy late-run screens become with huge numbers of bullets and enemies. That is a reader concern, not a measurement, and we have no performance data for either Nintendo version.

Nintendo Life lists the game as one release covering both Switch and Switch 2. Whether Switch 2 gets better frame rates or resolution is not stated in anything we read, so we will not assume it.

Our take: a safe buy that is not an urgent one

This is a good game arriving on more screens, and that is all it is. The reviews are strong, the price on Steam and Switch is $12.99, and the genre suits a handheld or a couch. The case for buying on day one is weak, though. There is no verified PS5 price, no performance numbers and no Knockout date.

Our position: if you already own it on PC or Xbox, nothing about the PS5 launch is urgent. If you are on PlayStation and like the genre, it is an easy yes once the price is confirmed and early players report on how it runs. If you want to dig with friends, buy the main game instead.

The Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions release on 9 October 2026, two days after the PS5 version, according to the publisher's press release and Nintendo Life. The Heavy Duty Expansion is $9.99 on Steam, currently $7.99, and a Supporter Pack is $4.99, so the extras add up if you want everything.

Is Deep Rock Galactic Survivor co-op?

No. Deep Rock Galactic Survivor is a single-player survivor-like auto-shooter, and its Steam page lists it as single-player. It is a spin-off of the co-op first-person game Deep Rock Galactic, borrowing its dwarves, aliens and mining theme, but you play alone. If you want to play with friends on PlayStation, you want the original Deep Rock Galactic, which is a separate game and is not part of this announcement.

Knockout is a new expansion with a melee Brawler class, a Sandblasted Corridors biome and a Brood Harvest mission that ends with a boss fight against the Dreadnought Empress. Its Steam page lists 11 new weapons that can be used across classes through a tag system. Is Deep Rock Galactic Survivor worth buying?

Reviews say yes. PC Gamer scored it 90 out of 100 and wrote that Vampire Survivors is no longer the king of the genre, IGN gave it 8 out of 10, and Steam lists it at 87 percent positive across 24,073 reviews. Those scores mostly cover the PC build, not the console ports, so wait for early players to report on PS5 and Switch performance if you are cautious about a first-week purchase.
