Enshrouded 1.0 release: what actually shipped on October 15

The Enshrouded 1.0 release went live on October 15, 2026, ending almost three years of early access. Steam shows the game as released on that date, with Keen Games GmbH listed as both developer and publisher. The studio put its early access debut at January 24, 2024, so the full launch lands roughly 33 months later, which is a long runway even by survival-game standards.

The headline is that the story is now finished. Keen Games' October 14 changelog says that with update 1.0.0.0 the story of Embervale is concluded, for now, while leaving the door open to more content because the Shroud still lingers. For anyone who bounced off the game in early access because the main quest ran out, that is the real reason to come back, more than any single feature on the list.

It arrives on a strong footing. Steam's review data on October 16 showed 92,288 positive reviews out of 107,435 across all languages, which works out to about 86% and a Very Positive rating. That is a large sample for a game that was never a licensed blockbuster, and it tells you the early access audience stuck around.

The new map, level 50 and the Cinder's Cradle biome

The biggest addition is Cinder's Cradle, a northern region past the Veilwater Basin that Keen describes as two layers: a lava-scarred wasteland of ruins below, and a realm of floating islands built by the Ancients above. The changelog says it sits between Blackmire and Veilwater Basin in size and holds 12 new Shroud Roots, the pickups that feed the skill tree.

Keen also filled in the edges of the world. The Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes get extra playable areas with new quests, and Keen says those zones add 6 more Shroud Roots, with a lower density of points of interest than the critical path. The gates to two Hollow Halls, in the Albaneve Summits and the Veilwater Basin, are now open, and Keen warns they are best visited with dependable friends.

Progression moves up with the map. The maximum player level rises to 50, gear can be upgraded to level 55, and the Flame Level gate raises the cap on Flame Altars to 15. A new survivor who specialises in Ancient knowledge and recipes joins the base, so the crafting tiers, furniture and building blocks expand to match the endgame.

“This is a huge milestone for Enshrouded and for us, so let us know what you think and if you haven't, leave the game a review!”

Combat, mages and the Sparkworks logic system

Combat got the most attention for mages. Keen's changelog counts 9 new spell types covering crowd control, area damage, summons and utility, plus extra tiers of existing spells and eternal spell variants that remove the problem of running out of charges mid-fight. Players can now summon skeletons, and new Necromancy weapon gems and support skills let a build lean entirely on minions.

The new Cinder's Cradle faction brings 14 new enemy types. With variants added to other factions, Keen puts the total at 37 new enemy faces, and says enemies now navigate complex terrain better. Wands gain an immediately available heavy attack plus unlockable evasive and aerial attacks, and ranged weapons get new aim-assist and targeting settings.

The creative side matters just as much to the community that built the game's reputation. Sparkworks is a new logic system for Adventure Sharing that lets players wire up light switches, trapped dungeons, puzzles and enemy encounters in their own worlds. Keen's own examples include parkour courses, battle arenas and escape rooms, which turns a building game into something closer to a level editor.

Price, PC requirements and the performance work

On Steam the game costs $39.99, discounted to $35.99 at launch, according to the store's API on October 16. The Deluxe Upgrade Pack is $9.99 and the soundtrack $7.99. It is a Windows-only release on Steam, with single player and online co-op for up to 16 players.

The listed minimum specs are an Intel Core i5-6400 or Ryzen 5 1500X, 16 GB of RAM, a GTX 1060 or RX 580 with 6 GB of VRAM, and 60 GB of storage. The recommended specs step up to an i7-8700 or Ryzen 7 2700X and an RTX 2070 Super or RX 6700 XT, and Steam says an SSD is recommended. Those are modest numbers for a game with this much voxel terrain.

Keen says the performance gains come from a new "brick renderer" that shows far more detail on distant terrain and buildings, so a castle no longer collapses into abstract blocks from afar. The studio also lists improved point light shadows, better global illumination and HDR support, along with lower memory use and shorter shader compilation after driver updates.

PS5 is out now, Xbox is a spring 2027 job

The PS5 and PS5 Pro versions launched on the same day as the PC release, worldwide, according to RPG Site's June 25, 2026 report on Keen's announcement. That makes October 15 the console debut for a game that had been PC-only for its whole early access run.

Xbox players are waiting. RPG Site reports that the Xbox Series X|S edition remains in development and is planned for spring 2027, and quotes Keen Games CEO Jan Jöckel saying the studio refuses to compromise on the quality of the game and that Xbox players expect the best. The studio had earlier planned a simultaneous launch, so this is a slip, but a dated one rather than an open-ended delay.

We did not find a PS5 price in any source we opened, so check the PlayStation Store listing before buying. The only price we verified is Steam's.

Skill tree reset, hotfix 1.0.0.1 and the rough edges

If you have an existing save, read the safety notice. Keen's changelog says that the first time you load a save in 1.0.0.0, the skill tree is reset and you must spend your skill points again. That is a one-time cost, but it will surprise anyone who jumps in without reading patch notes.

A hotfix, 1.0.0.1, arrived the same day. It fixed several random crashes, an indoor brightness bug from dynamic lighting, and crashes tied to specific attached peripherals. It also fixed the level of the Fire Wisp scroll at 27, because its damage had scaled with player level and made it ridiculously strong in the endgame.

Two known issues were still open in the hotfix notes. Reverb in large halls and the lowered gameplay sound during lore voice-over misbehave when the master volume slider is below 100%, so Keen suggests leaving it at 100% and using Windows volume instead. And if the edit-world button fails, subscribing to anything in adventure sharing is the temporary workaround.

What it means: a survival game that finished the job

Early access is a promise, and Enshrouded is one of the cases where the studio kept it. Keen Games was founded on Portal Knights, which CGMagazine's review says sold more than 3.5 million copies per a 2021 report, and the same review notes Keen then raised $10 million from Hiro Capital and Tencent to build Enshrouded. The 1.0 release is the payoff for that long bet.

Our read is simple. If you played the early access build and stopped when the content ran out, 1.0 gives you a reason to return, a bigger map, a conclusion and a much stronger endgame. If you were waiting for a console version, PlayStation owners can buy now and Xbox owners should plan around spring 2027. If you are new, the $35.99 launch price and modest PC specs make it an easy try, but the early hours are the part Keen reworked most, with fewer crafting grinds and more early chests.
