Kingdom Hearts Collection Switch 2 launch: what arrives today
The Kingdom Hearts Collection Switch 2 edition, part of the [I~III] bundle, launches on 8 October 2026 alongside releases for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to Square Enix's announcement as reported by RPG Site on 9 June 2026. Nintendo's own store listing for the Switch 2 edition shows the same 8 October date. It bundles three releases that were previously sold separately: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III with the Re Mind DLC.
The headline change is that these are native builds. Square Enix describes the games as "all available natively (non-cloud) on current-generation consoles", per RPG Site. For Nintendo players that matters, because the Switch versions released in 2022 were cloud streams that needed a constant connection. HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX also gets a native release on the original Switch the same day.
What is in the bundle, game by game
Notebookcheck's breakdown of the Square Enix announcement lists the contents. HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX holds Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and Birth by Sleep Final Mix, plus HD cinematic versions of 358/2 Days and Re:coded. HD 2.8 holds Dream Drop Distance HD, the short episode Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep, and the Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover movie.
Kingdom Hearts III ships with its Re Mind chapter. Nintendo's listing for the Switch 2 version adds that it supports handheld, tabletop and TV modes, Save Data Cloud and Nintendo Switch Online features, in eight languages: Japanese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean and Chinese. A free Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind demo is already on Switch 2, and progress from early Olympus carries into the full game, though progress from the first half of Toy Box does not, per Notebookcheck.
“Kingdom Hearts III on Switch 2 unfortunately just runs uncapped between 30 and 60fps.”
Price, editions and the pre-order perks
Square Enix's official collection page does not state prices, and Nintendo's regional listing we opened showed a blank price field. The figure circulating is $74.99 for the Switch 2 edition, which is what the price tracker Deku Deals lists as the MSRP across Nintendo eShop, Amazon, Best Buy, Target and GameStop, physical and digital. Treat that as the tracked list price, not a Square Enix statement. Deku Deals also shows PS5 and Xbox Series X|S dated 6 October, which lines up with the 48-hour early access that digital pre-orders on those two platforms include.
Physical editions exist for PS5 and Switch 2 only, per Square Enix's page. Each platform also gets an exclusive Keyblade with purchase: Long Night on Nintendo, Midnight Blue on PlayStation, Phantom Green on Xbox and Dead of Night on Steam. Owners of the digital PS4, Xbox One or Switch Cloud versions get 50% off digital pre-orders and post-launch purchases of the new editions, and physical editions are excluded, per Notebookcheck.
Is there a PC version, and what does it cost on Steam?
This is where coverage disagrees. Early reports said PC would come through the Microsoft Store, while Square Enix's collection page lists Steam and Epic Games as digital storefronts. The simplest reading is that PC players already have the games: Steam has sold HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind since 13 June 2024, and we could not confirm a separate PC release on 8 October. Steam's store listing is the thing to check, not the headline.
The Steam prices are the useful comparison. When we checked on 8 October, HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX was $14.99 against a $49.99 list price, and both HD 2.8 and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind were $17.99 against $59.99. That is $50.97 for all three at the current discount, well under $74.99. Sales end, and the Steam discounts are temporary, but anyone with a PC and no urgency for a console copy has a cheaper route today.
How well does Kingdom Hearts III run on Switch 2?
The honest answer is that nobody outside Square Enix has tested the final builds yet. Notebookcheck reports that Square Enix has not published frame rate or load time targets. The only independent data is from the demo. RPG Site's Mikhail Madnani tested it on 14 June and wrote that the game "unfortunately just runs uncapped between 30 and 60fps", with docked resolution between 1080p and 1296p and handheld dipping to 720p, with other results around 900p.
Madnani's own conclusion was measured: "Right now, I'm fine with the visuals being similar to PS4 Pro, but performance leaves a lot to be desired." He also stressed that those figures came from a few locations in a demo and hoped for improvements in the final build. Until a launch-day analysis lands, the cautious position is to wait for Digital Foundry-style testing before paying $74.99 for the Switch 2 version of the third game specifically.
The cloud versions have an end date
The part that affects existing owners most is easy to miss. Notebookcheck reports that the cloud versions are no longer sold and will stop working on 9 June 2027. That is a single secondary report, and we did not find the date on Square Enix's collection page, so check your platform's notice before relying on it. If it holds, Switch players who bought the 2022 cloud games have until then to move to a native copy, and the 50% upgrade discount is the route Square Enix built for them.
On Switch 2 the discount rules are stricter. Notebookcheck says it requires owning every cloud title individually or the Integrum Masterpiece cloud bundle. Save data transfer to Switch 2 is supported for cloud owners only, and not on other platforms. Anyone who played through the cloud versions should confirm eligibility on the eShop page before buying at full price.
What it means: a buying take
If you own a PS5 or Xbox and never played these games, the launch is a clean, native way in. If you only have a Switch 2, this is the first time the full trilogy runs on the hardware without streaming, which is a real gain. The caveat is the third game's frame rate, which is the one unresolved question. Kingdom Hearts IV remains in development, per Notebookcheck, so this collection is the catch-up route, not the finale.
The sensible order is: check your existing library for a 50% discount, compare the Steam sale prices if you have a gaming PC, and hold the Switch 2 copy of Kingdom Hearts III until independent performance tests appear. Prices and sale windows move, so treat every figure here as of 8 October 2026.
Frequently asked
When does the Kingdom Hearts Collection Switch 2 edition release?
The Kingdom Hearts Collection Switch 2 edition, part of the [I~III] bundle, launches on 8 October 2026 alongside releases for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, per Square Enix's announcement as reported by RPG Site. Nintendo's store listing shows the same date. Digital pre-orders on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S include 48-hour early access, which is why trackers list those two platforms on 6 October. HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX also launches natively on the original Switch on 8 October.
What games are in the Kingdom Hearts Collection?
The bundle holds three releases. HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX contains Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Birth by Sleep Final Mix and HD cinematic versions of 358/2 Days and Re:coded. HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue contains Dream Drop Distance HD, Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep and the Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover movie. Kingdom Hearts III comes with the Re Mind chapter, per Notebookcheck's breakdown.
How much does the Kingdom Hearts Collection cost?
Square Enix's collection page does not list prices. The price tracker Deku Deals lists the Switch 2 edition at an MSRP of $74.99, physical and digital, across Nintendo eShop, Amazon, Best Buy, Target and GameStop. On Steam, the three parts are sold separately: $14.99, $17.99 and $17.99 on 8 October at the current discount, or $50.97 together, against list prices of $49.99, $59.99 and $59.99. Sale prices change.
Is Kingdom Hearts native on Switch 2 or cloud streaming?
It is native. Square Enix describes the games as all available natively, non-cloud, on current-generation consoles, per RPG Site. That is a change from the 2022 Switch releases, which were cloud versions streamed over an internet connection. Native play means the games run on the console itself. Frame rate is the open question, since the only independent testing so far, on the Kingdom Hearts III demo, found 30 to 60fps uncapped rather than a locked 60.
Are the Kingdom Hearts cloud versions being shut down?
Notebookcheck reports that the cloud versions are no longer sold and will stop working on 9 June 2027. We found that date in one secondary report and not on Square Enix's collection page, so confirm it with your platform. Owners of the digital Switch Cloud, PS4 or Xbox One versions can get 50% off the new digital editions, and cloud owners can transfer save data to Switch 2. Physical editions are excluded from the discount.
Is the Kingdom Hearts Collection coming to PC?
The games are already on PC. Steam has sold HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind since 13 June 2024, and Square Enix's collection page lists Steam and Epic Games as digital storefronts, with a Steam-exclusive Dead of Night Keyblade. Early reports mentioned the Microsoft Store, and we could not confirm a separate PC release on 8 October. Check the Steam listing for current prices.
