Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition: the date, the price and the short answer

The Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition (officially Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy) launches on November 12, 2026. People who already own Pikmin 4 on Switch can buy the Dandori Academy upgrade pack, which Nintendo's page lists at $9.99 in the United States, and a free demo is reported for November 2. Nintendo has not announced a new Pikmin game.

That is the whole shape of the announcement, and it came from an unusual place. Nintendo used a short Direct posted on October 31 to turn November 1 into an annual 'Pikmin Day', and packed the Switch 2 version of its 2023 game into the same presentation. Below we separate what Nintendo's own page confirms from what comes only from press coverage of the Direct.

What Nintendo's Pikmin Day Direct confirmed

Nintendo's Pikmin Day Direct page lists Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy for 11/12/26, and a separate Dandori Academy upgrade pack, also due 11/12/26, that is open for pre-order at a regular price of $9.99. The same page says the first Hello! Pikmin short, titled '#01 Frog', is available to watch now, and that Pikmin Bloom will get Secret Caves, in Nintendo's words 'coming this winter'. A Nintendo Treehouse Plays stream of the Switch 2 Edition ran on Sunday, November 1 at 9am PT.

Gamereactor, which watched the Direct, describes it as a roughly nine-minute presentation posted to YouTube on October 31 rather than streamed live, and quotes Shigeru Miyamoto explaining the date: the red, blue and yellow Pikmin standing side by side resemble '11.1'. No new Pikmin game was announced. For a series that has produced four mainline games in 25 years, the Switch 2 Edition is therefore the main Pikmin product to buy this autumn.

“Starting this year, we're going to start calling November 1st Pikmin Day.”

Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo, as quoted by Gamereactor, October 31, 2026

Dandori Academy: what the new mode adds

Dandori Academy is the headline addition and the part sold separately as the upgrade pack. Nintendo Life, reporting in September when the edition was first revealed, described it as a mode that tests item-collecting skills, with three difficulty modes, 72 stages and visible scores from other players. GameNewsPlus's account of the Direct adds that Nintendo plans time-limited challenge stages, with one attempt at a weekly exam held from Friday to Sunday, medals to earn and online rankings to compare against.

Treat the exact structure as press reporting rather than Nintendo's own wording, because the Direct page we opened gives names and prices but no mode description. The two accounts agree on the core idea: Dandori Academy turns the series' efficiency puzzle, getting the most done with the fewest Pikmin in the least time, into a competitive, score-driven loop on top of the original campaign.

Switch 2 features: voice commands, GameShare and sharper visuals

Both Gamereactor and GameNewsPlus report that the Switch 2 hardware changes how you command Oatchi. Using the console's microphone, you can call out orders to Oatchi, with 'Rush' given as an example by Gamereactor, and Nintendo Life's September piece described the same microphone feature with a lighthearted 'good boy' example. GameNewsPlus also reports that Dandori Battles supports GameShare, letting a second player join without owning the game, and that the visuals run at higher resolution than on Switch.

We could not confirm a frame-rate or resolution figure from Nintendo's own page, so we are not quoting one. If Nintendo publishes technical specifications on the eShop listing, that is where to check before you decide whether the improved visuals matter to you.

The free demo, due November 2

Press coverage of the Direct says a free demo of the Switch 2 Edition arrives on November 2, covering the opening Sunspeckled Terrace area and two Dandori Academy stages. Gamereactor and GameNewsPlus both say save data from the demo carries over to the full game. The Nintendo Direct page we opened does not mention the demo, so the date comes from Nintendo's presentation as reported, and you should confirm it on the Switch 2 eShop.

If it matches the reporting, the demo is the cheapest way to answer the only question that matters for an existing owner: do you want to pay $9.99 for Dandori Academy, or are you happy with the 2023 campaign as it is? Ten days between the demo and the November 12 launch leaves time to decide.

Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition price: what is confirmed and what is not

The confirmed number is the upgrade pack. Nintendo's page lists the Dandori Academy upgrade pack at $9.99, and Nintendo Life's September report gave £7.99 for UK owners of the base game. The full edition is less clear. Nintendo Life's game listing shows $69.99 in the US and £58.99 in Europe, but the Nintendo page we opened shows a 'Regular Price' label without an amount for the full edition, so treat $69.99 as a press listing until you see it at checkout.

Pikmin 4 itself launched on July 21, 2023, and Nintendo's financial results of May 7, 2024 put it at 3.48 million copies sold, according to the Pikmin series entry on Wikipedia, which makes it the best-selling game in the series. That context explains the pricing logic: Nintendo is selling a cheap top-up to a large installed base and a boxed version for newcomers.

Pikmin Bloom, Hello! Pikmin and who should buy

Nintendo is tying the console release to the mobile game. GameNewsPlus reports that meeting requirements in the Switch 2 Edition unlocks Cave Maps and postcards for Pikmin Bloom, plus an Oatchi-Rider costume for Mii characters, ahead of Bloom's Secret Caves update this winter, which has no exact date. Separately, Gamereactor says the Hello! Pikmin shorts continue monthly from December through the Nintendo Today! app.

Our read: if you own Pikmin 4 and enjoy score chasing, the $9.99 pack is an easy yes after the demo. If you have never played the series, the full edition is the better entry point, and our Pikmin games in order guide explains where it sits among the earlier releases. If you only wanted a new Pikmin game, nothing in this Direct changes that.
