Final Fantasy VII Revelation dated for April 2027 at PlayStation's September State of Play

A trilogy gets its ending date

PlayStation's September State of Play saved its biggest reveal for last. Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final chapter in its remake project, will launch on 8 April 2027. The show ran an extended look at the game to close the broadcast, ending years of the studio keeping its finish line vague.

The date is the headline, but the framing matters too. Revelation is meant to wrap a remake effort that began in 2020 and split one 1997 game into three modern releases. Setting a spring 2027 window gives Square Enix a fixed target and gives players a countdown, after years in which the studio talked around when the finale would actually land. The trailer that closed the show was pitched as an extended look rather than a teaser, a sign the project is far enough along to commit to a day.

Two shows, a stack of dates

This was not a single tidy broadcast. Sony ran two State of Play shows back to back on 3 September, both loaded with trailers and release dates. Until Dawn 2 was dated for 28 January 2027, following a ghost-hunting TV crew through an abandoned sanatorium and a remote island. Metro 2039, the next entry in the post-apocalyptic shooter series, was set for 4 February 2027.

There were surprises alongside the sequels. Maneater 2 was revealed for 2027, sending its shark loose in a resort called Neptune's Kingdom. Crimson Desert lined up a Charting the Unknown expansion for 15 October 2026. Marvel's Wolverine, already out, got a fresh look, and Sony showed limited-edition DualSense controllers tied to Grand Theft Auto VI.

Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds is in the mix too, with an expansion called Ascendance slated for 2027, and the two shows made room for a run of indie titles between the big names. The spread, from a shark sequel to a Final Fantasy finale, was the point. This was less a single tentpole reveal than a wide sweep of what PlayStation owners have coming across the next year and a half.

Ghost of Yotei's next move

Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei is not done after launch. Sony detailed Most Wanted, a survival-focused combat mode that brings back Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. The mode is bundled into a Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition, which Game Informer reports lands on 1 October 2026.

Taken together, the two shows read as Sony spacing out its calendar rather than clustering everything into one window. The heavy hitters sit in early 2027, with Revelation as the anchor, while the back half of 2026 leans on expansions, editions and updates to existing games.

Sony did not attach prices to everything on show, and some windows stayed loose, but the dates it did lock give the next stretch a clear shape. The takeaway from 3 September is that PlayStation's 2026 tails off into editions and expansions, while its heaviest new releases cluster in the opening months of 2027. For anyone budgeting time and money, Revelation on 8 April is the date to circle first.
