Saros Zenith update: what it is and when it landed
The Saros Zenith update is out now on PS5, free for every Saros owner, Housemarque announced on the PlayStation Blog on October 19, 2026. It adds a boss rush mode called Overlord Rush, a New Game Plus structure called Eclipse Layers, 20 new Carcosan modifiers and a set of accessibility options led by an adjustable slow game speed. Push Square reports a 3.5 GB download and describes it as version 2.0. The PlayStation Blog post gives no version number or file size, so treat both as Push Square's figures until the patch notes say otherwise.
Saros launched on April 30, 2026 at $69.99, according to Push Square, which puts Zenith about five and a half months after release. The PlayStation Blog calls the game "one of the highest rated action games of 2026," which is Sony's own phrasing rather than an independent tally, and we have not checked a review aggregate for this piece. Zenith is not a new campaign. It is a replayability and access update, written up by Abebe Tinari, the Zenith design lead at Housemarque, with two stated aims: give people who finished the game a reason to come back, and make it easier for newcomers to get in.
Overlord Rush: the Saros boss rush mode
Overlord Rush is reached through the Primary Unit in Passage and is framed in the fiction as a training simulation. Players race to defeat the main game's Overlords, and an integrated global leaderboard ranks the results. There are three sets. Incursion and Ascension cover three Overlords each and can be completed in about 10 minutes, per the PlayStation Blog. Totality is the full run: all eight Overlords back to back in one continuous gauntlet.
The detail that matters most for competitive players is that leaderboards can be filtered by main weapon, so a time set with one loadout is not compared against a different one. The blog footnote also says the mode needs an internet connection and a PlayStation account, which means offline players will not be able to use it. A boss rush with a leaderboard is built for repeat attempts rather than a single clear, and ten minutes per set is short enough to make that realistic. We have not played the mode, so how the scoring feels is a question for hands-on coverage.
“Corruption becomes a new source of power.”
Eclipse Layers: how Saros New Game Plus works
Eclipse Layers is the Saros equivalent of New Game Plus, as Push Square puts it. It unlocks after you clear the game. New nodes appear in the Armor Matrix at Passage, and activating them opens the gate to the next Eclipse Layer. Each layer changes the rules and makes them more intense. Before you start a layer you pick a loadout of Carcosan modifiers and must reach a required threshold of them to begin, so the difficulty is partly a choice you make before the run.
The Crown ties the system to the story. While you play an Eclipse Layer, protagonist Arjun wears a Crown and his armor glows golden. The Crown grows larger as you take on more Trials and your Modifier Balance rises. Housemarque also adds 12 collectibles called Visions across Carcosa, shown as murals and messages carved by an ancient king, and higher Crown levels are needed to reveal some of their story text. Push Square notes the Crown is required to find the new set of collectibles that unlock more lore. In plain terms, the harder you play, the more story you see.
The 20 new Carcosan modifiers
Zenith adds 20 new modifiers: 10 Protection modifiers that make the game more forgiving, and 10 Trial modifiers that make it harder. With them the game has 25 Trials in total, per the PlayStation Blog. The post spotlights two. Corruption Melee Enhancement is a Protection: corruption absorbed from enemy projectiles is consumed on a melee hit to deal extra damage. Tinari's line for it is "Corruption becomes a new source of power."
The Trial example is Hostile Regeneration. Larger hostiles can be stunned by weapon damage but regenerate quickly, and only a melee strike finishes them. Housemarque also warns that certain Trial combinations synergize in dangerous ways, which reads as an invitation to stack them and find out. Both examples in the post lean on melee, but a post that names two of twenty cannot tell us whether that holds across the set, so we are not drawing a conclusion from it.
Slow game speed, auto-fire and motion aiming: the new accessibility options
Slow Game Speed slows the game so players have more time to react to attack telegraphs and bullets. The attacks themselves are unchanged. Players set how much it slows, and it can activate automatically in combat or be toggled manually, per the PlayStation Blog. That design choice is worth noting: the patterns stay intact, so the skill of reading and dodging them is still the game, just at a pace a wider range of players can manage.
Auto-fire makes weapons fire automatically when aimed at a hostile. It does not touch reloading. Tinari is explicit that "this setting does not make reloading automatic," and a perfect reload still needs a timed button press. Motion Sensor Aiming is a new aiming option, and button remapping, which already existed, combines with the new settings. Push Square's rundown also lists a high-contrast visuals toggle, auto-aim and gyro aiming among the options. Gyro aiming is Push Square's wording, and the PlayStation Blog names it Motion Sensor Aiming.
What the Zenith update means for Saros owners
Free post-launch content on a $69.99 game is the headline here, and Push Square's "massive" description is fair on the content list alone: a new mode, a New Game Plus loop, 20 modifiers, 12 collectibles and a set of accessibility options. Push Square had previewed the update in September as adding boss rush and New Game Plus with more to come later this year, so this release delivers what was promised rather than a surprise.
For players who stopped at the credits, Overlord Rush is the quick way back in and Eclipse Layers is the long one. For anyone who bounced off the difficulty, slow game speed and auto-fire are the real news. Two caveats stand: Overlord Rush needs an internet connection and a PlayStation account, and we have not played Zenith, so this is a report on what Housemarque and Push Square have published, not a verdict. Our play-first assessment will wait for hands-on time.
Frequently asked
What does the Saros Zenith update add?
The Saros Zenith update adds Overlord Rush, a boss rush mode with a global leaderboard, and Eclipse Layers, the game's New Game Plus. It also adds 20 new Carcosan modifiers, split into 10 Protection and 10 Trial modifiers, 12 Vision collectibles tied to the Crown, and accessibility options including Slow Game Speed, Auto-fire and Motion Sensor Aiming. It went live on October 19, 2026, according to Housemarque's PlayStation Blog post.
Is the Saros Zenith update free?
Yes. The PlayStation Blog says the Zenith update is free for all Saros owners from October 19, 2026, and Push Square describes it as free for all players. You do not need to buy a separate expansion. Saros itself launched on April 30, 2026 at $69.99, per Push Square, so the update is additional content for people who already own the base game.
How big is the Saros Zenith update?
Push Square reports a 3.5 GB download and says the update brings Saros to version 2.0. The PlayStation Blog post from Housemarque gives neither a file size nor a version number, so those two figures come from Push Square alone. If storage matters, check the size shown on your PS5 before you start the download, since it can differ by region and install state.
What is Overlord Rush in Saros?
Overlord Rush is the Zenith boss rush mode, reached through the Primary Unit in Passage. You race to beat the main game's Overlords and are ranked on a global leaderboard that can be filtered by main weapon. Incursion and Ascension are three-Overlord sets of about 10 minutes each, and Totality chains all eight in one run. It needs an internet connection and a PlayStation account.
Does Saros have New Game Plus now?
Yes, in the form of Eclipse Layers. After you clear Saros, new nodes in the Armor Matrix at Passage open the gate to the next Eclipse Layer. Each layer brings altered, more intense rules, and you must equip a threshold of Carcosan modifiers to begin. While playing, Arjun wears a Crown that grows as you take on more Trials, and higher Crown levels reveal more story text in the Visions collectibles.
Can you slow the game down in Saros?
Yes. Slow Game Speed gives you more time to react to attack telegraphs and bullets, while the attacks themselves stay the same. You choose how much the game slows, and it can switch on automatically during combat or be toggled by hand. Auto-fire and Motion Sensor Aiming are separate options, and auto-fire does not automate reloading: a perfect reload still needs a timed button press.
