A new Silent Hill, seen through one pair of eyes

Silent Hill: Townfall is out, released on 24 September 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. It is the work of Screen Burn, the Scottish studio formerly known as No Code, with Konami and Annapurna Interactive sharing publishing duties. The series has flirted with first-person views before. Townfall is the first mainline entry to commit to it fully, in both exploration and combat.

The setup is classic Silent Hill dread with a fresh frame. Players follow Simon Ordell, who wakes on the fog-bound Scottish island town of St. Amelia with no memory of how he got there, the place empty except for what stalks it. A handheld CRTV device sits at the centre of the game. Holding L1 tunes into montage-style broadcasts that surface puzzle clues and reveal the flickering silhouettes of foes nearby and at a distance.

The story digs into guilt. Simon's path crosses Zoe Ellis, a local nurse, and a man named Richard who reaches him through the CRTV and urges him to fulfil his purpose. The threads point to a shared past and a catastrophe, an oil rig disaster that killed 95 workers, with the island playing out like a purgatory the characters cannot leave. Deluxe Edition owners got in ahead of the wide 24 September launch.

Reviews land well, with one warning

The reception has been positive. Dexerto scored it 4 out of 5, calling it terrifying and beautiful, while Siliconera gave it an 8 out of 10 and praised how the stealth focus makes it easy to pick up. Critics single out the atmosphere as the standout, even where they disagree on whether the stealth systems stay tense or grow frustrating.

There is a practical caveat that keeps coming up. The first-person camera, useful as it is for tension, can be hard on the stomach. Siliconera warns that much of the game plays out in dark, cramped rooms where you spin in place hunting for items, and that players prone to motion sickness may struggle. It is worth flagging before you buy.

“Half of the game takes place in dark, claustrophobic environments, and you often have to spin in a small room to look for items. Those who get motion sick easily might have a rough time.”

A rocky technical start on PC

The launch has not been entirely smooth on Steam. Konami has posted an official notice saying it is working on an update patch to address performance-related issues affecting the Steam version, and told players to watch the game's official channels for a date. A separate notice covered a fix for a problem that briefly stopped some downloadable content from unlocking.

None of that has sunk the game's standing. Townfall arrives as one of several recent swings at reviving Silent Hill, and its bet on a full first-person view, backed by that CRTV gimmick, gives it a distinct identity. The open question now is how fast Screen Burn and Konami smooth out the PC build.
