Xbox Mythic Achievements are here, and they are Xbox's answer to the Platinum Trophy

What a Mythic Achievement actually is

Xbox Mythic Achievements are the platform's version of a completion trophy. According to the Xbox Wire post published on 29 September 2026, you earn one when you complete all original achievements for a game. If you have ever eyed the Platinum Trophy on PlayStation and wondered why Xbox had nothing equivalent, this is the answer, more than a decade late.

The post is credited to Alex Charters, a senior product manager, and Eden Marie, a principal software engineering lead. It is part of the monthly Xbox Insiders console features roundup, so the first players to see it are Insiders, not everyone.

The rule that matters: original achievements only

The fine print is the useful bit. Mythic status depends on the achievements that shipped with the game. Anything added later through DLC or a post-launch update is tagged as an add-on and is optional. That means a game cannot quietly move the goalposts on you with a new expansion after you have already finished it.

It also means the reward is bounded. Nobody has to chase a live-service game's endless seasonal list to hold a Mythic, which is a sensible call and arguably a friendlier one than some completion systems.

Retroactive, all the way back to Xbox 360

Xbox says Mythics are applied retroactively to eligible games you have already completed, including Xbox 360 titles. If you spent years cleaning up achievement lists, your profile may already have a pile of them waiting. That is the part likely to make longtime Gamerscore hunters pay attention.

The word to notice is eligible. Xbox has not published a list of which games qualify in the post we read, so do not assume every old completion will convert.

A refreshed profile and a progress bar

Alongside Mythics, Xbox is adding a Gaming tab where you can see your achievements, track your next Gamerscore milestone badge and revisit the games you have completed. Mythic Achievements get distinctive frames, and you can view a friend's Gaming tab to see what they have finished.

Each game's achievement list also gets a progress bar showing how close you are to Mythic status, with add-on achievements clearly tagged. For completionists that is the genuinely practical piece: you can see what is left without counting tiles.

What we do not know yet

This is an Insider rollout, and Xbox has not given a date for wider availability in the source we opened. Insider features can change before they reach everyone, so treat the details above as the current test build, not a final spec.

We have not played with it. Everything here comes from Xbox's own announcement, which is a vendor source and describes the feature in its best light.

Our take

It is a small feature with a big fan base. Excluding later DLC achievements is the right design, and the retroactive award will make the launch feel generous. The open questions are which games count and when non-Insiders get it. Until then, this is a promising update, not a finished one.
