From one game to a platform

NEXPACE, the web3 arm of South Korean publisher Nexon, is reframing MapleStory Universe. Inven Global reported that the company is moving the project from a single-game blockchain ecosystem into what it calls an IP platform, described as a place where anyone can create IP content using AI. The pitch is that external developers could build MapleStory content without licensing approval, a studio or business registration.
The company set out the plan on the first anniversary of MapleStory N, the ecosystem's flagship game, which launched on 15 May 2025.
What VIBE IP is meant to do
The centrepiece of MapleStory Universe 2 is a system called VIBE IP. Per Inven Global, it would give builders API access to MapleStory N game and user data, AI-based coding tools, and automated on-chain licensing, settlement and payments so that creators are paid when their content is used. NEXPACE has attached up to $50 million in ecosystem fund support and plans a phased rollout across 2026 and 2027, with a stated ambition to extend the model to other Nexon IPs later.
NEXPACE chief executive Hwang Sun-young framed the goal bluntly, saying she hoped that in the platform's second year builders would generate more profit from the IP than NEXPACE itself does.
“In our second year, I hope builders generate more profit from the IP than NEXPACE does.”
A year of on-chain activity
NEXPACE backed the pivot with usage data. Inven Global reported that in its first year MapleStory N logged more than 150 million cumulative on-chain transactions, 3.82 million registered accounts and roughly 850,000 active wallets, with over 12 million transactions on its NFT marketplace. The company said about 48 million NXPC were consumed over the year, which it estimated at around $31 million, and that roughly 8 million NXPC were permanently burned.
The token sits at the centre of the economy. GAMES.GG reports that NXPC has a fixed supply of one billion, is earned through play, and can be used to pay gas, trade NFTs and convert into the in-game currency NESO, with a fission and fusion system that lets holders break down or combine NFTs.
On how that supply is released, GAMES.GG reports that about 20 percent of NXPC was distributed at launch and the remaining 80 percent over seven-day cycles, with a contribution reward pool taking the bulk of the total, the development team allocated less than one percent, and roughly 17 percent of tokens in circulation at launch. Rewards are weighted so that less-trafficked parts of the game pay out more, to spread activity.
Why it stands out
MapleStory Universe runs on Avalanche, and its 2025 debut was one of the busier launches in the category, drawing more than 1.7 million MSU Scroll NFT mints, according to BlockchainGamer.biz. The AI and licensing turn is a bet that a large existing player base plus creator tooling can keep an economy active where many token games have struggled.
